Phoenix Sky Harbor March 2011 0

Getting back to my photographic roots, Phoenix Sky Harbor, perhaps the most aviation friendly airport in the country (well, perhaps Los Angeles International REALLY takes the cake…) did not fail to impress me the last time I was out there. I have become quite familiar with the airport in the last year, taking many trips to Phoenix and thousands of shots of the Southwest Airlines and US Airways (Cactus, to us Air Traffic types) that frequent the airport in huge numbers. I was quite pleased that Phoenix decided to throw some variety at me with the inclusion of some unique aircraft.

This trip was partly a test trip to test out the Canon 24-105 F4L (which I bought after this trip, and used for my VLA trip) , and also the lens I intend to be the workhorse of my future aviation photography, the Canon 100-400 F4L.

I have to say the 100-400 turned out to be an absolute joy to use. The Push/Pull zoom was a bit different, and I lost some shots because I wanted to twist the barrel when the action was happening. I also lost some shots because the adjustable tension on the zooming mechanism was set too tight. These are all issues that continued use of the lens will rectify.
